We highly recommend this book, both touching and inspiring, as it illuminates the intimate and universal dimension of faith lived on a daily basis. Through her testimony, Soundous Moustarhim shares an authentic spiritual journey, that of a woman of her time who seeks inner peace in a world agitated by standards, judgments and labels.
Report of the interview with Soundous Moustarhim, author of the book My journey of faithpublished by Éditions J’ai Lu, Phaos collection.
In the interview, Soundous Moustarhim evokes an education marked by love and kindness, where faith was never imposed on him, but transmitted by example. “Islam was a way of life for us,” she says. Far from constraints, she describes a spirituality lived in family sweetness, marked by harmony between her parents and fairness within the home. This approach, almost natural, sowed in her a “little seed” of faith which, later, would become a refuge in moments of crisis.
The author recounts how, faced with the trials of life – illness, professional failure, divorce – she found herself faced with emptiness. It was only by stopping looking for external solutions that she rediscovered this long-buried inner peace. Islam, she confides, then became her “lifeline”, a source of balance and serenity. She insists on the liberating role of prayer, experienced not as an obligation, but as an intimate dialogue: “I lay my burden on you, I let you manage, and I know that it will be okay. » Soundous describes this absolute trust in God as the most beautiful thing she has experienced.
For her, pain is a spiritual springboard. Far from being a punishment, the ordeal allows us to transform, to understand, to evolve. She recognizes the difficulty of accepting these moments, but emphasizes that they are often where we grow the most. This positive vision of suffering runs through his entire speech: to believe is also to learn to trust God when the light is not yet visible.
Faith, according to Soundous Moustarhim, is not fixed. She describes it as “alive and moving,” a faith that fluctuates with the ups and downs of existence. It calls for normalizing these spiritual variations, accepting periods of distance or fatigue without guilt. For her, the connection with God is never broken: it is a door that always remains open, even when everything else seems to close.
Addressing the issue of the veil, Soundous calmly denounces the overmedia coverage of this subject in France. “For me, it’s a non-issue,” she says. She does not understand why a personal choice becomes a public debate, reminding us that true well-being requires respect for individual freedom. Finally, it evokes an “inner pilgrimage”, prior to any external journey. For her, the path to God begins first in the heart of oneself. Do it hajj only makes sense if one prepares oneself spiritually, and this inner work, she insists, can be done without leaving one’s home.
With My journey of faithSoundous Moustarhim offers a luminous testimony, imbued with humility and depth. His journey resonates as an invitation to rediscover a peaceful, free and incarnate faith, far from fixed discourses, anchored in life and love.
